Service to Armed Forces & International Services

The Carolina Lowcountry Chapter provides around-the-clock, around-the-world network that allows service members to stay in touch with their families during births, deaths, and serious illness. The American Red Cross (ARC) also provides information and referral services and works to trace family members and enables them to communicate during war, civil unrest, or disasters in other countries.

Disaster Services

Disaster Services volunteers respond to single family house fires and other emergencies throughout Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton and Dorchester counties. Throughout the year, they train people to prevent, prepare for and respond to disasters through community disaster education.

Health & Safety

A year-round program of Red Cross training courses in Standard First Aid, CPR, Pet First Aid, Babysitting, Water Safety (including swimming lessons), Family Care Giving, and HIV/AIDS Education, are available to the public.

Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP)

An important additional source of volunteer power is generated through RSVP. This is a program of the Corporation for National & Community Service which is sponsored locally by the Carolina Lowcountry Chapter.

Volunteer & Youth Services

Red Cross response efforts are mainly staffed by volunteers with a local ratio of 22 volunteers to every one staff member. The main functions of the Volunteer and Youth Services Department of the Carolina Lowcountry Chapter are recruitment, recognition, and retention of volunteers from ages 10 and up.
