WHAT IS RSVP?

A nationwide volunteer program, RSVP invites adults age 55 and over to use their life experiences and skills to answer the call of their communities' needs.

Today's adults are busy, productive people.  After retirement, many RSVP volunteers use their experience to tutor children, assist in hospitals, or give tours in historic locations.  Others distribute food to the homeless and the homebound or volunteer at a variety of one time community events.  They want to keep active in ways that make a difference.

There exists today, perhaps more than ever before, a tremendous need for volunteers in many of the non-profit community agencies throughout the nation.  Volunteers are needed to share their experience, time and expertise with others.  Together we can work to build a better life for many in our community.  When you contribute your time and talent, you are sharing the most valuable gift of all - YOURSELF!

RSVP is a program of the Corporation for National and Community Service.  The local project has been sponsored by the American Red Cross, Carolina Lowcountry Chapter since 1973.  Nationally it is comprised of 450,000+ volunteers serving through 760 projects.

The local RSVP covers the counties of Charleston, Dorchester, Berkeley and Colleton.  We are fortunate to have a part time Coordinator in each county.  Our aim is to utilize the particular skills and interests of each individual volunteer with an eye to what needs to get done in the community.
